As part of LIFE-MAC Africa’s ongoing mission to empower communities, our team has been visiting schools for over a decade, introducing students to STEM education with a strong focus on technology and digital literacy. This program, which has now evolved into STEMize, started as a component of the Paradigm Shift Project, aimed at bridging inequalities by connecting young adult mentors with children from underserved communities.

Ten years ago, digital literacy became an integral part of our Paradigm Shift Project. We recognized early on that the digital divide was a significant barrier to opportunities for many young people. One student who embraced this opportunity wholeheartedly was Henry Deladem Nyadzi, then a student at Ho-Kpodzi E.P. Basic ‘D’ Junior High School.

When LIFE-MAC visited Henry’s school and introduced him to the world of technology, it sparked a transformative moment for him. That introduction planted a seed of interest that has since grown into a full-fledged career path. Today, Henry just graduated from the University of Education, Winneba, where he pursued a Bachelor of Education in Information Communication Technology (ICT).

What makes Henry’s story even more remarkable is his decision to not only pursue ICT but to focus on teaching it, multiplying the impact of his journey by empowering future generations. The knowledge he will soon impart to countless children is a testament to the power of early exposure and the life-changing potential of mentorship.

When asked about his experience with LIFE-MAC Africa, Henry shared:

“Several years ago, a group of mentors visited my school, Ho-Kpodzi E.P. Basic ‘D’, to introduce us to the world of technology and programming. Their presentation sparked my interest, and I joined their group, where they organized classes for us. We were introduced to Python, along with other engaging tutorials. The basics we learned opened my eyes to the world of coding and inspired me to pursue a degree in ICT. Now, as an ICT student at the University of Education, Winneba, I’m grateful for their guidance, which played a key role in shaping my career path.”

Henry is just one of the over 2,000 young people whose lives have been touched by the Paradigm Shift Program in small but meaningful ways. His story exemplifies the impact that early exposure to STEM education can have, particularly for students from underserved communities. Henry’s journey reinforces our belief that by expanding our reach, particularly to girls and rural students, we can inspire a new generation of changemakers.

Henry’s success and the achievements of many others have given us the conviction to scale up our efforts through the STEMize Program, continuing to provide STEM support to underserved communities.

To Henry and others like him who have turned our small contributions into launchpads for their dreams, we salute you. You are the future of Africa, and your example shines as a beacon of what is possible when the right opportunities meet prepared minds.
